were best alternative act and Eminem
was best male - beating Robbie Williams
who pulled out of the event last week.
MTV's equivalent awards in the US, the
Video Music Awards, were wreathed in
controversy after Kanye West
interrupted Taylor Swift's acceptance
speech.
One could sense the organisers' relief
that this had passed off without
incident.
